2008, a surprising vintage..

The first weeks of September have been cold, most of the time sunny, with few rainfalls. Many growers have started the harvest between September 15th and 20th. End of September has been superb, no rain at all. Fortunately, the sun was there with temperature between 14° and 25°C.

Thanks to the last days, the sugar level is correct; we expect Nouveau wines between 12% and 12°5%, except our non chaptalized Beaujolais domaine Romy that will be around 11%.

The acidity level is high, with an average pH at 3,10, but potassium level is high as well, so the balance at the end of the fermentation should be there.

First tastings prove to be very fruity with a medium concentration.

Something unexpected is the extremely small volume of the crop. The average production will be from 25% to 30% lower than usual, sometimes lower than 2003. Because of hail, Juliénas will produce 30%, Saint-Amour 50% and Beaujolais-Villages 50%.
